A fun head to head game against someone of equal skill level. Handicaps are recommended if you have one. Match play is a very common game and even used in a few PGA Tour events.
How To Play
Play out each hole as you normally would trying to shoot the lowest score possible to beat your opponent.
How To Score
1 point is available on each hole. The point is awarded to the player that bests their opponent on the hole (shoots a lower score). No points are awarded for ties. If there is a tie you have the option to push the point to the next hole.
Hole 1: Emily and Michael tie on the hole so nobody wins the point, but they decide to push the point to the next hole.
Hole 2: Emily shoots a 4 and Michael shoots a 5. Emily wins 2 points: 1 for beating Michael on Hole 2 and 1 for the point that was carried over from hole 1.
How To Win
The winner is the Player with the most cumulative points (holes won) at the end of the round.
Points can have a predetermined value (e.g. $1), or you could all wager something to throw into the ‘pot’ in which the Player with the most points just wins the ‘pot’ (e.g. a new golf glove).
On hole 1, Jason score a 5 and Daniel scores a 7. Jason wins the point.
On hole 2, Jason scores a 4 and Daniel scores a 3. Daniel wins the point.
After two holes the match is tied.
